The Provost Academy Instructional Model

The Provost Academy school model is an online program that will use highly qualified teaching staff in the positions of Advisor, Grader and Synchronous Tutor to create an educational model that allows for more focused teacher responsibilities. Each new teaching role allows for an effective/efficient instructional model.

Position Descriptions

Advisor

The Advisor serves as the primary contact for the family and oversees the student's experience with the school, from field trips to state mandated testing. The Advisor helps the family create the student's learning plan, is responsible for monitoring student performance across all subjects, and helps the student with pacing, testing, scheduling, etc. The Advisor also serves as the "Customer Service Representative" for the school, ensuring that the student's experience in our school is maximized. This position should be filled by a certified teacher who thoroughly understands all aspects of the school and ensures that all student centered decisions are academically sound. Special Education Advisors will have similar responsibilities, but will be assigned to work with Special Education students, and will be familiar with a student's IEP. Advisors will work out of our Denver headquarter offices.

Synchronous Tutor

This subject-specific, highly qualified teacher is responsible for managing the synchronous learning environment through voice-over-IP web conferencing software. This may include pre-scheduled group lectures to cover difficult concepts, group discussions led by the educator to drive understanding, or review sessions held for groups of students ready to take a Unit Exam. The Synchronous Tutor will hold open tutoring sessions at set times throughout the week for students to "drop in" with questions or requiring extra support, and provide mandatory tutoring for students needing reinforcement or re-teaching of specific concepts. These positions will be filled by certified and highly-qualified teachers, who will work online.

Asynchronous Grader

The Grader is responsible for grading all work submitted in the online courses that they are assigned. The Grader must provide clear, concise feedback to student-submitted work and manage all discussion forums and blogs. They post announcements to help students with any common issues and share information that engages the students. The Grader is also responsible for monitoring the student's progress as tracked through the Marks system - software that determines a student's proficiency status in real-time as they complete assessments. These positions will be filled by certified and highly-qualified teachers, and Graders will work online.

Guidance Counselor

The Guidance Counselor coordinates and schedules all students for required testing. This includes scheduling the proctored testing sessions and securing testing facilities. They will assist students and families with registrations for state tests, SAT/ACT testing, college fairs and post-secondary applications. The Guidance Counselor may also provide students with prevention, intervention, and crisis counseling services or referrals as needed.

User Support Technician - Online

The User Support Technician (UST) is responsible for supporting the implementation and development of the technology culture of the online school community. Additionally, the UST is a technical resource responsible for the technology infrastructure for each Provost Academy student ensuring that the technology is functioning and available for members of his/her school.

Data Owner

This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of student information data within the Student Information System (SIS) at the site level by maintaining the site's student data on a daily basis. The data owner also ensures that the SIS is available for use by other site staff members as needed and provides user support for the system. This is a year-round position.

School Operations Manger

The School Operations Manager oversees operational performance at the school by undertaking or managing finance, administration and general school operations in order to support site achievement and financial success. This allows the Principal to focus on education related aspects of school performance instead of operations. The School Operations Manager is a member of the site’s leadership team.
