Provost Academy Georgia's Opening is Delayed On June 18, Provost Academy was honored to be selected by the Georgia Charter School Commission to open the state's first fully online public charter high school, and we were ready and fully capable of launching Provost Academy Georgia this fall. However, once the Commission provided new funding guidance, it became immediately evident that we would not be able to replicate the quality online education model that has already shown success. Provost Academy believes deeply in the value of virtual education and the impact it can have on students' lives. While offering an online school using our instructional model would provide great opportunities for the students of Georgia, it is unfortunate that the Commission chose funding levels which were prohibitive to providing the resources and support needed to adequately and appropriately educate students. Provost Academy is not willing to sacrifice the quality of the education in the face of inadequate resources. While we fully understand the financial constraints placed on state and local school districts due the economic conditions, it would have been irresponsible to diminish the quality of the education we would provide to Georgia students in order to meet funding levels that were dramatically lower than originally expected. Technology-based learning systems are not only changing the way students are learning today, but are helping to improve our education system for the future. However such innovative progress will only come about if the necessary resources are provided to truly advance education for the benefit of all students. Provost Academy's Board of Directors, comprised of dedicated Georgia residents, stand ready to fulfill the mission of providing a breakthrough online learning experience to help students achieve their goals, when the appropriate resources are provided.
